Post - Publication Disucussion and Corrections
Introduction
Accesso Journal is committed to the integrity and completeness of the scholarly record it publishes. Recognizing that published articles are part of an ongoing scholarly discourse and that errors may occasionally occur despite rigorous peer review, this policy establishes mechanisms for post-publication discussions, corrections (errata), and, when necessary, retractions. Accesso Journal adheres to the guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in addressing post-publication issues.
Description
-
Scholarly Record: The body of published academic work that is considered permanent and reliable for reference and citation.
-
Correction (Erratum): A notice published to correct an error or omission in a published article that affects the scientific integrity of the content, the publication record, or the reputation of the authors or journal, but does not invalidate the entire article.
-
Expression of Concern: A notice published to alert readers to serious concerns about the integrity of a published article (e.g., suspected data fabrication, ethical issues). It is typically issued while an investigation is ongoing.
-
Retraction: A notice published to indicate that a published article is fundamentally flawed and that its findings and conclusions can no longer be relied upon. Retractions are reserved for severe cases of error or misconduct.
-
Post-Publication Discussion: The process by which readers can engage with published content through comments, letters to the editor, or forum discussions to debate, clarify, or challenge the findings.
Introduction Policy
-
Commitment to Corrections: Accesso Journal recognizes its responsibility to correct errors in the published literature promptly, transparently, and with due prominence.
-
Types of Corrections:
-
Author-Initiated Errors: Authors are expected to promptly notify the journal of any significant errors they discover in their published work.
-
Reader-Initiated Comments: Readers, reviewers, or other researchers are encouraged to submit substantive criticisms or notifications of errors via formal "Letters to the Editor" or through a designated comments function on the article page.
-
Assessment: All communications regarding potential errors will be assessed by the Editor-in-Chief, who may consult with the authors, editorial board members, and/or independent experts to determine the appropriate course of action.
-
Outcomes:
-
Minor Corrections: Typographical errors or minor grammatical issues that do not affect the meaning or scientific content typically do not warrant a formal correction notice but may be corrected in the online version if possible.
-
Correction (Erratum): Issued when a significant error (e.g., in data, methodology, results, interpretation) is identified that does not invalidate the overall conclusions of the article. The original article is linked to the erratum, and the erratum is linked to the article.
-
Expression of Concern: Issued if there are strong indications of unreliable data or conclusions, but a definitive investigation (e.g., by an author's institution) is ongoing or inconclusive. This serves as a temporary alert to the community.
-
Retraction: Issued in cases of severe error (e.g., pervasive unintentional mistakes that invalidate the core findings) or scientific misconduct (e.g., data fabrication, plagiarism, redundant publication). The retraction notice clearly states the reason for retraction and who is retracting the article. The online version of the article is marked as "RETRACTED" but remains accessible to maintain the scholarly record, with the retraction notice prominently displayed.
-
Appeals: Authors have the right to appeal a decision to issue a correction or retraction. The appeals process will be handled fairly and in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Introduction Technical Measures to Archieve and Implement the Policy
-
Mechanism for Raising Concerns:
-
A dedicated email address (e.g., accessojournal@rancakpublik.or.id) or an online form will be provided on the journal's website for readers and authors to report potential errors or concerns regarding published content.
-
Formal Letters to the Editor:
-
Accesso Journal will consider for publication substantive "Letters to the Editor" that critique or comment on published articles. These letters will undergo editorial review and may be sent to the original authors for response. Both the letter and the author's response may be published together.
-
Online Commenting (Optional Future Feature):
-
The journal may implement a moderated commenting feature on article pages to facilitate open discussion, subject to clear moderation guidelines to ensure civility and relevance.
-
Clear Labeling and Linking:
-
All correction notices (errata, expressions of concern, retractions) will be published as distinct, citable items and will be permanently linked both ways to the original article.
-
In the online version of the article, a prominent watermark or header will be added for retracted articles (e.g., "RETRACTED").
-
Cross-Reference Notification:
-
Where applicable, Accesso Journal will notify indexing databases and abstracting services of any published corrections or retractions.
-
Archival Integrity:
-
The original version of the article will always remain accessible. Corrections will be made in a way that does not obscure the original content but provides a clear path to the corrected information or retraction notice.
-
Timeliness:
-
The journal will strive to handle all post-publication concerns and issue necessary notices in a timely manner.
This policy ensures that Accesso Journal can maintain trust in its published record by addressing post-publication issues responsibly and transparently.
